"The great thing about the Flip camcorder is that our producer can just keep it in her bag at all times and any time there is an opportunity to capture a story she has it there with her. She feels like she gets much more intimate interviews with people when she has the Flip camcorder - it's so small an unobtrusive that people almost forget that it's there."

Tavis Smiley Web Exclusive “Homegirl Café”

This video shows former female gang members finding employment and hope working at the Homegirl Cafe.

The Tavis Smiley web team took a Flip Camera to Homegirl Café in Los Angeles. At the restaurant they recorded interviews with the staff about the work they are doing in the community. The staff is made up of young women who have left or are struggling to leave a gang. The downtown restaurant gives the women a safe haven and teaches them how to cook and run a restaurant. After editing the video, the web team posted it on the Young Voices blog to inform visitors about Homegirl Café and start a discussion about helping at-risk youth learn job skills and get work.
